Action Required|Operation Smile Thursday June 22 at recess $1.00
The grade 4 students in Room 17 have been inspired after reading the book, Wonder to support an agency called "Operation Smile." This organization has doctors that travel around the world performing life changing operations on cleft lip and palettes of young children and babies. Many of the children who benefit from this 45 minute procedure would have severe malnutrition or even die because of the difficulty with eating or drinking.
Last year, one of our students expressed, "Kids can't even eat a popsicle if they have a cleft lip or palette!" We started a tradition last year where the grade 4 students sell popsicles for $1 with all proceeds going to Operation Smile. Each surgery costs $240, so we are hopeful we can help as many children as possible this year! Last year, we were able to pay for 4 surgeries!!
We are currently accepting loonies to be given to your child's classroom teacher. Popsicles will be given (to all children) this Thursday, June 22 at recess. Thank you for your support in this initiative. Please check out the following link explaining the work that Operation Smile does around the world.
