Hi All!
Today we had a presentation from Paul Davies, this is what we learned:
1. Instagram, Facebook, snapchat are all apps for kids 13 and older.
2. You have to have a strong password for your phone and computer - don't use common ones like 1234, 2580, 0000
3. Put a bandaid over your camera on Macs, chromebooks and windows products to ensure no one is watching you
4. Kids shouldn't be playing or buying "Call of Duty" or "Grand Theft Auto" due to the graphic nature of the game. Both of these games are rated 17 and older ( M)
5. If you don't have an account you can't be bullied :)
6. Kids shouldn't be playing games that are above their age limits.
7. Everything you do can be traced back to you! By computer, phone, spot in your house, school job. What time you sent items can be tracked. Phone companies by law have to keep and monitor your phone. Google keeps all of your searches!
8. Don't tag the places that you take your photos at.
9. Predators can see: where the photo was taken, what time, who it is, siblings, parents, teams etc.
10. Don't have electronic in your room - have them in a common area where your parents can see what your doing and who you are doing it with.
11. Don't clock on links in emails - they could have the "rat" virus.
12. Minecraft is awesome!!!!! It is the safest game - however keep your world private.
13. On you tube videos - Turn off the comments section. Don't post a video unless you are 13+
14. Blogs are a safe and easy way to share with friends and family.
15. Don't play violent video games around younger siblings. Respect their age :)
Paul Davies is here at 6:30 for parents. His presentation will be aimed at parents to help keep their kids safe and also to help them learn what they can do to keep themselves safe. ( passwords etc)
Bring a pen, paper and a coffee!
